The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is looking to appoint a Non-Executive Director (NED) to the Board of NHS Resolution (NHSR). The NED will also be responsible for chairing the Audit and Risk Committee.
NHSR manages negligence and other claims against the NHS in England. It aims to resolve concerns fairly, share learning for improvement and preserve resources for patient care.
As a NED of NHSR, you will be responsible for the good governance of the organisation, including the expenditure of considerable sums of public money. You will ensure that NHSR promotes the values of the NHS and places a high priority upon helping the NHS improve the safety of patients. You will play a key role in ensuring that the organisation meets the needs of both primary and secondary care providers in England and is focused upon providing excellent services and good value for money including cost effective resolution services. As a board member you will provide appropriate challenge, scrutiny and support at Board level ensuring that the organisation learns from things which go wrong in the NHS and shares that learning, to improve the safety and standard of care.
Applicants must demonstrate a strong track record of significant delivery, including at a senior level within the private, public or voluntary sectors. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen, accept challenge and constructively challenge others; and work closely with the board and key stakeholders.
In addition, you need the ability critically analyse a wide range of information to make clear, evidence-based recommendations that support delivery of the organisation’s objectives.
Applicants should also have senior finance experience, most likely with a professional background in accountancy or a related discipline, with experience of governance, risk management, assurance, and the work of audit and risk committees. A background in financial services, especially insurance, would be beneficial.
Remuneration will be £13,137 per annum for a time commitment of two to three days per month. The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care determines the length of appointment, which may be for up to a maximum of 3 years.
